Jessup completed his Dona Birth Doula training at the prestigious Bastyr University Simkin Center for Allied Birth Vocations, learning from Carrie Kenner and Penny Simkin, international leaders in maternal and family support. He is also a trained Full Spectrum doula, a Red Cross trained CPR/First Aid instructor, a Childbirth Educator, a Certified Lactation Educator, and is trained in TENS and Rebozo use in labor. He stays current with emerging trends and research around birth, lactation, and postpartum support. As one of a handful of male doulas nationwide, Jessup brings an extensive ‘tool bag’ to support the birthing parent, a healthy dose of humor, and a unique perspective as a partner. He understands the particular challenges the non-birthing parent may face in supporting, nurturing, and being present for such a transformative event. Raised in an LGBTQ+ home, Jessup works with all families and has specific interest, expertise and compassion for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer families. Bringing these experiences together, Jessup works to address the needs of the whole family, providing non-clinical emotional and physical support through the perinatal period. When not attending births, Jessup enjoys spending time with his partner, their daughter, and their hedgehog. While life has taken him from wooden boat building in Maine, to delivering cargo under sail in the South Pacific, he is happiest when helping the entire family bring their child into the world, providing them with the information and resources necessary to advocate for their birth experience and beyond.
