A healthy, connected pregnancy sets the stage for a sustainable bond. In 2012, I started attending births with this belief. The importance of this period and this bond can’t be overestimated. I love watching partners grow through this journey together, learning about themselves and the child in the womb. When we finally meet the new baby, I’m always amazed at the love their parents discover at that moment. Meeting a completely unique person at the very beginning of their time on this planet is the highest honor. I can never get enough of it. I doula because I love holding space for people on journeys that can be filled with joy and challenges. I view this transitional time as an opportunity to build healthy life habits that prepare people for facing the ups and downs of parenthood with a sense of self-confidence, connection, and empowerment. This is why I teach Calm Birth meditation to classes and clients. I’ve been meditating for my entire adult life, and my parents meditated with me in the womb. I attribute their practice to my own ability to face challenges with resilience and positivity, and I hope to share these gifts with others in my communty. I integrate practical meditation and mindfulness into my doula practice, as well as into my role as a parent-infant massage educator. Everything I do is based on deepening a person’s connection to themselves, their babies, and their world. My husband, mother, sister, dog, and I live in the North Ballard area. I recently graduated UW with dual Masters in Social Work and Public Health, and that education has helped my birth practice grow in its scope. I love to garden, bike, and hike… and I also spend a lot of my time standing up for social justice. I want the babies I assist earthside to enjoy breathable air, thriving communities, and equal chances of living long, happy lives. As one of my favorite sayings goes… “When we heal birth, we heal the Earth.” Birth work is about more than holding space for a rite of passage. It’s about creating a better world. If any of this resonates with you, and you’d like to incorporate a practical form of meditation into your life, please contact me. I would be honored to join you on your journey into parenthood.
